Just FYI, my fact-filled anti Iraq War novel Homefront addresses in some explicit detail how "Sad to say during election year in the USA, it still helps to be a little fascist. Homefront was sprung by a newspaper report of a mother's comment, "He died for all of us," after she lost her US soldier son in the opening weeks of the invasion. Much of the novel consists of a fictive newspaper reporter, Lynn Jackson, interviewing war protesters and members of the family of a US soldier slain during the opening of the Iraq War. The novel can be understood to have been written by Lynn Jackson after she has undergone something of a political or cultural transformation. (In the novel as originally published, she was listed as the author. I have since broken out one of the long fictive (but highly fact-filled political) interviews she does and published it as a separate book, the novella, Glory.)

The novel (and larger Homefront trilogy) looks at a number of journalist-and-politics questions as well as examining many issues of state-corporate activity and citizen responsibility.

In the opening of Homefront the main character Carolyn Thompson kicks her cousin the U.S. Senator Sam Washburn off her porch (on the 1 year commemoration of her soldier son's death in Iraq).
